Ghost of Summer Past...

As I sat here basking in the cool, fresh breeze from the open windows it just occurred to me that summer is over! It came and went so fast. It didn't really even seem to start for us until the 4th of July since before then it rained pretty much since Luke was born in March. So much for my dreams of power walking, pushing the double-stroller to burn my baby fat (which had actually mostly come off until we've been gone for the past month.) Someday, maybe.

Anyway, since I never have much time to write I'll do my bets to summarize our summer. Kicked it off with Memorial Day at Mimi and Big Daddy's in the Poconos. I started back at work on June 1st (Lydia's 2nd Birthday) and we found a GREAT babysitter for Luke and Lydia- Ms. Donna. The kids adore her and I trust her completely. She "gets" us and is very proactive with caring for our children. I never even worry a little leaving our kids with her, she is a true blessing for our family. Rob was teaching most of the summer, so I felt like a single parent a lot. I am used to having him around more, so it was an adjustment for me, but I think we worked it out. It helps to have 2 great kids. July 4th- back to the Poconos and then everything is a blur until we left for North Carolina. The kids both did amazing for the 8 hour drive (thank God for the minivan) and did lots of bonding with their cousins at the beach, although we spent very little time on the beach and more at the pool. The next weekend after we got back, I took the kids to the Poconos to see my cousins Jim and Tracy and their kids and Rob went with his cousins and kids to the Phillie's game (courtesy of our baby sitter's dear friend who caters for the team.) The next weekend, it was the Karlberg reunion in New Hampshire and then a nice visit with John and Lori Gunn and then to Jimmy and Tracy's for the night. A few days after that, we went to the Lakehouse in WI and then to see Rob's family in MN. Last weekend, we ended the summer as we started it- at the Poconos, but I had a last minute reunion with my PSU roomies- Nicole, Patty and Janette. That was a blast. I love them and they have great kids. I wish we hung out more and hope that moving forward we will. I'll try to post pics from each visit and go into more detail about all we did.

What are the kids up to? We'll start with Lydia. She is a wonderful daughter, we are so blessed. She has the sweetest voice and nothing melts my heart more then when she wraps her arms around me, squeezes me and says "I am so happy!" What more is there to ask for? She can now count to 39 (can't quite remember 40), knows all of her letters, numbers, colors, shapes, etc. She talks in sentences now, sings lots of songs, knows everyone in both of our families even lost of cousins and their kids. She was doing ok with the potty training and always told us when she had to go caca, but since we travelled so much the past month, we didn't push it and we've sort of back tracked. She loves "Yo Gabba Gabba" (she calls it Gabby) and fruit snacks. What else? Oh, she is also a mother hen to her brother "Lukey". She doesn't like to hear him cry, not that he does a lot, but IF he does, she goes right to him or if she is in her bed I hear "Lukey's crying. Go get him." He just adores her and I think she is starting to realize that and that just tightens their bond. To think that 3 years ago, we didn't even know if we'd be able to get pregnant and had almost given up hope. My heart is so overjoyed and grateful for these blessings.

Luke is 5 1/2 months already. He has been sleeping through the night since he was 10 weeks, rolling back to front AND front to back since he was 3 months and now he rolls all around to get what he wants, he even is starting to do the army crawl thing where h tucks his legs under him and scooches across the floor. He is so inquisitive and really is hands on batting at his toys, ripping them down, grabbing stuff. He can pull his pacifier out of his mouth and get it back in. Even if the pacifier is across his crib, he will roll to it, grab it and plop it in his mouth. We were supposed to wait until 5 months to start cereal, but I had to start a week shy b/c I couldn't take the stare down when I was eating and now, he can grab the spoon and tries to feed himself. He took to eating right away (no surprise there) and his first food was rice cereal, then oatmeal, sweet potatoes, pears and today bananas. So far, so good. I bought an organic "starter pack", but hope to get my act together to start making his food for him. He has been waking up more at night since he hasn't been sleeping in his bed while we've been away, but since we've been home he's pretty much slept all night again or wakes up at 5 to eat and then goes back down. He is ALWAYS smiling, even if he starts to cry and I say, "Oh, honey what's wrong" he instantly turns his cry into a scratchy laugh! He smiles in spite of himself, it is so cute. He loves to watch his big sister and looks like he wants to jump right in and play with her. He likes to blow raspberries and kick and splash in the tub. He keeps us busy, but he is always happy and can entertain himself, which is nice.

Ok, I've bragged enough. I know every parent feels this way. I think of our wonderful God and how we are his children and he loves us more than we love our children. How awesome and humbling is that? As much as I want Lydia and Luke to know we love them, I want them to know they are loved by our Lord.

God Bless!!
